Antique Chinese "Butterfly" Coffer (5674), Circa 1800-1849
This authentic Chinese Antique Coffer is made in elegant Ming style. The coffer is crafted into "butterfly" shape with unique carving lines around the side and front apron of the chest. The panels on the front surface of the chest are crafted with double carving lines. The copper hardware used between the two drawers is the original lock. There is a "secret compartment" underneath the two drawers (the place that was used for storing valuables). The copper hardware used between the two drawers is used for original lock. The coffer is handcrafted and structured with wooden pegs and tenon structure, which is the very traditional craftsmanship for furniture making in ancient China. Original Wear and Patina. Handmade from Elm wood with beautiful wood grain, the coffer is very solid and kept in excellent condition. Circa early of 19th century. (can be used as sideboard, buffet table or even vanity cabinet)
