$ 759.00

This style of chair is known as "official's hat chair" because the projections over the rear stiles resemble the knobs on the black hats once worn by high-ranking administrators in Ming Dynasty. The chair is high back and handcrafted and structured with wooden pegs and tenon structure, which is the very traditional craftsmanship for furniture making in ancient China. Intricate carvings of traditional Chinese calligraphy of "happiness" and "deer under cypress tree" design decorate the back splat of the chair. Both arm and back splat of the chair are crafted with deep curves. The front opening underneath the seat is uniquely carved into "arch" shape. Made from Elm wood with beautiful wood grain, chair is very solid and has been kept in excellent condition. Original patina and wear. Circa early of 19th century.
