This antique Ming table was known as Scholar Daybed and was a standard piece of furniture in a scholar's study during the Ming-Qing dynasty. A scholar might lie down and rest on his daybed, sit with a companion on it, or merely use it as a surface on which to place books or other favored objects. A daybed is more frequently seen and used as a long large table. It is handcrafted in elegant Ming style with simple and straight lines. The table is handcrafted and structured with wooden pegs and the tenon structure,  which is the very traditional craftsmanship for furniture making in ancient China. Can be used as a large coffee table, or bench. (also can be used as outdoor furniture in covered patios)  Circa early 19th century. Original patina and wear. Made from elmwood with beautiful wood grain, the table is very solid and has been kept in excellent condition.
