This antique Chinese armchair, known as a Southern Official-Hat Chair (南官帽椅), shows the fine craftsmanship and elegant style of Qing Dynasty furniture. The back of the chair is uniquely carved. The arms and back have deep, flowing curves, giving the chair a strong yet elegant look. The chair is handmade using traditional wooden pegs and tenon joints. It is made of elm wood, known for its attractive grain and strength. Circa the early 19th century, this chair has been kept in excellent condition.
