Antique Chinese "Butterfly" Coffer (5191), Cunninghamia/Elm Wood, Circa 1800-1849
This Authentic Chinese Antique Coffer is also known as "Butterfly Cabinet" in China. The style of the coffer has great influence of Mongolian furniture during Qing Dynasty (Qing Dynasty in China was ruled by Mongolian people). The intricate relief carvings of traditional Chinese design motif decorate the side and front apron of the coffer. There is a "secret compartment" underneath the two drawers---the place to be used for storing valuables in the old days. The detailed handwork in making this cabinet show great craftsmanship. Unique copper Hardware.The customers who bought these style of the cabinets from us before, used them as Kitchen Island by adding up Marble top, or as Vanity cabinet with vessel sink, or as night table next to bed, and many other uses. The coffer is handcrafted and structured with wooden pegs and tenon structure, which is the very traditional craftsmanship for furniture making in ancient China. Original Wear and Patina. Handmade from Cunninghamia and Elm wood with beautiful wood grain, the coffer is very solid and kept in excellent condition. Circa early of 19th century.
