This style of chair is known as "official's hat chair" because the projections over the rear stiles resemble the knobs on the black hats once worn by high-ranking administrators in Ming Dynasty. This high back chair is handcrafted and structured with wooden pegs and tenon structure. Intricate carving of Chinese calligraphy "Happiness" and "deer under cypress tree" design decorate the back splat of the chair. Both the arms and the back splat of the chair are crafted with deep curves. The front opening underneath the seats is uniquely carved into "arch" shape. Made from core of Elm Wood, the chair is very solid and kept in excellent condition. Original patina and wear.
