Antique Chinese Altar Cabinet (5805), Circa 1800-1849
This Authentic Chinese Antique Altar cabinet is also known as "Butterfly Cabinet" in China. The style of the cabinet has great influence of Mongolian furniture during Qing Dynasty. The intricate relief carvings of floral design motif decorate the surface of two drawers, three panels underneath the drawers and the bottom apron. The spandrels of the cabinet are carved with floral design. The carvings of this cabinet are very delicate and three dimensional. The carvings of the cabinet are highlighted with multi colors. There is a "secret compartment" underneath the two drawers---the place to be used for storing valuables in the old days. The detailed handwork in making this cabinet show great craftsmanship. The cabinet is handcrafted and structured with wooden pegs and tenon structure. Original Wear and Patina. Handmade from Elm wood with beautiful wood grain, the cabinet is very solid and has been kept in excellent condition. Circa early of 19th century.
