Antique Chinese Treasure Trunk (5347), Zelkova wood, Circa 1800-1849
This Authentic Antique Chinese Treasure Trunk is handmade in elegant Ming "Waist" furniture style. The "waist" just below the trunk top is made from separate piece of wood and carved in a "narrower waist" connecting the top and the body of the trunk in a very unique way. The "waist" part between the top and the body of the trunk is painted with Ebony black color. The panels of trunk are beveled and highlight with Ebony black color. The double-line round carvings apply to all the edges of the trunk. The workmanship in making this trunk exemplifies the refined skills of the most talented craftsmen of Ming Qing dynasty. The trunk was originally made for storage of Gold or silver bars and coins for wealthy family before paper money used in China. The trunk is four-sided and in excellent condition from all sides. There is a panel on top of the trunk used for opening. The copper lock on the panel is original. The trunk is handcrafted and structured with wooden pegs and tenon structure, which is the very traditional craftsmanship for furniture making in ancient China. Original patina and wear. Made from Zelkova wood with beautiful natural wood grain, the trunk is very solid has been kept in excellent condition. Circa early of 19th century. (can be used as coffee table too)
